Through continental reliefs, the surface of our planet illustrates the on-going interactions between the geodynamic processes that lead to the construction of topographies and the erosion processes that tend to dig up these topographies and then erase them. Understanding the evolution of terrestrial landforms as resulting from endogenous, exogenous processes (climate) and feedback loops, represents in itself a major topic in geology and geomorphology. This research theme will aim to unite all of the CRPG’s efforts focusing on the processes that control the evolution of terrestrial landforms. Our research group covers a breadth of disciplines (geochemistry, geomorphology, and tectonics), which allows for an integrative view of many processes. The group also relies on many tools and methods which enable, on one hand, the quantification of the mechanisms involved along different time and space scales, and on the other hand, the dating constraints (cosmogenic isotopes, thermochronology and magnetostratigraphy). To better understand the mechanisms of relief creation, our scientific approach will be based on the study of lithospheric deformation from areas of rifting to region of convergence zones. We will study in parallel the various processes of physical erosion and weathering, as well as their coupling.
