Summary
This is the seventh survey in the series of geochemical reference
sample (GRS) bibliographies published in Geostandards Newsletter
and is designated as PART VII in the series.
PART VII contains references gathered from major analytical and geochemical Journals that have become available to the author from January to December 1986. A few earlier ones which were not available at the time of the previous report (PART VI) or those which have inadvertently been overlooked have also been included.
During the period covered by this bibliography, a total of number 192 references has been collected. The volume of GRS literature has apparently remained approximately at the same lever as compared to the earlier reviews.
Nearly 30 Journals have published GRS papers during 1986. Table 1 shows the distribution of these articles in the literature. It is seen that Geostandards Newsletter continues to be the main source information for the geoanalytical community. The Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry is also an important medium for GRS data communication. Table 2 lists the degree of use of various analytical techniques. During 1986, the general trends have been similar to those reported previously. The four dominant techniques are neutron activation analysis (NAA), isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP). Among these, NAA always takes the lion's share. Over one quarter of the references cited with involves this method of choice and approximately 44% of the new data produced are obtained by this technique. A marked interest in ICP geochemical analysis is worth noting (fourth place; 15% of total reported data).
